Deepest Biology or Spiritual Bypassing

So many of us are searching for healing, for meaning, or for a deeper connection to who we really are. Along the way, it can be easy to get caught up in the exciting or mysterious parts of spirituality, psychic abilities, past lives, and more. But what if the real key to healing isn’t something “out there,” but something already inside of our own body? In this post, I’d like to share a bit of my story and what I’ve learned about self-actualization, not through shortcuts, but by doing the real, honest work of feeling.

Deepest Biology or Spiritual Bypassing: Finding Self-Actualization Through the Body

Over 35 years ago, I started a journey of self-discovery. My body was in pain, and I didn’t know much about alternative healing. I wondered:
Should I explore my dreams?
Would learning about my past lives help?
Could things like shiatsu or homeopathy bring me relief?

I was curious about everything. I read books about meditation, alien life forms, psychic abilities and  Ouija boards. I tried to learn through reading, but I didn’t yet know how to feel what I was learning. I was looking for answers outside myself, hoping something would magically make me feel better.

I had this idea that if I developed my intuition everything would magically sort itself out.  I was fascinated with dream psychology and put effort into understanding life from that perspective. Books on past lives lined my book shelf as well as reading  Ruth Montgomery, Seth teachings, the I ching, books on various topics such as enneagrams, Runes, tea cup readings, tarot card wisdom, books such as the Monk who sold his Ferrari, the teachings of Don Juan and the list went on.  I was doing what’s called spiritual bypassing, focusing on the “spiritual” stuff because I didn’t know how to get in touch with the hard emotional and physical work waiting in my body.

Things began changing as I became acquainted with some good homeopaths and a couple of nutritionists which helped build a good foundation.

The next big shift came when I discovered bodywork.

Things kept progressing once I began working with my body through practices like Cranio Sacral therapy, positional release techniques and other myofascial work, acupuncture, and Tai Chi. Developing the intuitive side was beneficial and the homeopathy was helping resolve things on various levels of my being but I still had a yearning to discover something I’d never been able to put my finger on.

Finally, after two decades, I found something that truly answered the questions I had been carrying. It was Pre- and Peri-Natal Therapy, a way of working with the birth imprints that were laid down in our nervous system in pre- conception and all the way to the first few years of life.

With the help of skilled facilitators, I began to feel a deeper version of myself, what we refer to in Pre and PeriNatal work as our perfect blueprint for health. My body started to release stress I had been holding in my earliest days and my nervous system was doing a better job at self regulating.

It turns out, babies feel a lot but we’re not typically taught how to connect with those early experiences or emotions. Once I slowed down and started to listen to my body’s messages, all the intuitive work I had done before was finally coming full circle.

Now, I understand something very clearly:
Self-actualization lives in the body.
Spirit has always been there, it’s not outside. The superior being’s hand isn’t going to come crashing through the ceiling in a profound moment of insight.

But I believe the deeper question is this:
Can you fully connect with your spiritual self if you haven’t truly connected with your body first?

My experience says no.

Self-discovery doesn’t come from skipping over the hard stuff. It comes from feeling it, in your bones, in your cells, in your breath. It comes from listening to your body.

If you're feeling called to reconnect with your body and explore the deeper layers of your healing, Pre- and Peri-Natal work offers a gentle and powerful path.

This approach helps you slow down and listen to the parts of your body and nervous system that formed during your earliest experiences—in the womb, at birth, and in the first few years of life. These early imprints often shape how we feel, respond, and relate to the world, even if we’re not consciously aware of them.

As a Pre- and Peri-Natal Facilitator, I offer sessions to support you in safely exploring these foundational layers. Together, we can begin to untangle old patterns, release stored tension and build new neural pathways as we connect with your body’s deepest biology.
